Rating: ★★★★

The importance of staying true to yourself and being honest about your actions has been shown very clearly in this amazing new film: Dial A for Academic Honesty. Many films related to Academic Honesty have to do with the idea of a person trying to redeem their grades. This is usually done by sneakily copying another student, like in the suspenseful Academic Honesty film by Timofey, Sam and Sam. In most cases, the person realises what they have done and try to make things right - much like in this film and also in Nik, Con and Magali’s fascinating film related to the importance of being academically honest. This film teaches the importance of staying fair to ourselves - which we can all take into consideration - and also gives an insight into the mind, thought process and the regret of a cheater. The suspense, the drama and realistic production value hooks the viewer to this film. The combination of techniques, angles and music make this suspenseful drama shine, even when the editing slips at points.

This astounding new film Dial A for Academic Honesty, shows the characters, Julie,

Annebelle and Linda, dealing with stolen work, cheating and regret. This film is relatable to anyone with a high school experience - dealing with cheats is normal in a school environment - and helps them to have empathy towards Julie. The dramatic acting, helps develop the story and engage the viewer. The emotion put into this piece, by Julie, Annebelle and Linda is truly amazing. The thought process of the characters is shown throughout, which helps the audience relate more. The dramatic music creates a suspenseful atmosphere that grips the spectator and the sound effects used, develop the storyline. When the sad music hits, the regret of the character sinks into the audience and makes them have empathy towards Julie. In addition, the well-selected music creates the perfect amount of tension and foreshadows a significant event to the audience. Even the cheerful music created a sense of drama which everyone outside of the film is able to see. This tension technique - soundscape - was nailed to a T! There is a clear example of dramatic irony in this film that allows the viewer to know more then characters do. This makes the audience tense, scared and worried about the future actions of the characters. When the audience sees Julie stealing, an overwhelmingness of emotions flow over them and they want to jump into the screen and tell Linda about the events that have just took place! This sudden rush of emotions increases the interest in the film and makes it one of the reasons why this film is so brilliant.

The use of point of view shots within this excellent film create a more intriguing storyline. The way the audience sees the trip from someone else's perspective, helps them to get a better understanding of the events playing out. When you see Julie take the paper, with Annebelle watching, the drama multiples. By using the point of view shot, the detail is clearer and it improves this suspense drama. The location set the scene - using a wide shot - at the start of the film and the still frame showed their study area. The tension between the characters was diffused when the wide shot came in at the end and the peace between the actors was restored. The drama, the intensity and the tension were all caused by the actions of Julie but were shown by the close-ups. The close-up on Linda’s face left the audience shocked and they start to feel bad because they knew what Julie did. The close-ups on the faces helped to portray certain feelings and make them more intense, so the audience can connect with the characters more. The use of angles created a thought-provoking film and the use of bird's-eye made the story more compelling. You were able to understand more about the characters, through these angles, which made the audience more aware of the character’s feelings.

To conclude, this enthralling film incorporated different film techniques that made it more interesting. There were many techniques used and the editing was good which helped increase the drama, the suspense and the emotions of the characters and made the story more effective and relatable. But why does that matter, I hear you ask? Well, these things combined created one of the best films made and showed the importance of being academically honest.
